I guess everyone's on vacation, with the paucity of responses so far.

No GD collection is complete without Workingman's Dead and American Beauty. Period. Maybe not what you're after, but for me essential. I also recommend Skullfuck and Blues for Allah, possibly for sentimental reasons, but still good selections. Avoid the Steal Your Face release. ( I can't in good conscience recommend any Brent shows personally, other than the acoustic sets from 1980, but I'll never knock people who like his style.)

Like you, I don't own any Dick's, Dave's or Road Trips. Just so much here on the archive to sate my appetite. Might I also recommend Garcia acoustic? Particularly with Grisman - recommend the Shady Grove and Pizza Tapes compilations, and Old & in the Way for bluegrass. How about JGB? Lots of great releases, Pure Jerry etc. Maybe a JGB fan here can make recs.

Anyway, this list might help you narrow your choices by era:

may the four winds blow you safely home...

Thanks for the recs so far! I should point out that, since I've got the Golden Road, I have everything included in that: self-titled, Anthem, Aoxomoxoa, Workingman's, American Beauty, Live/Dead, Europe '72, Skull & Roses, Bear's Choice, and Origins of the Dead.

Keep 'em coming! :)
